CODA.market Creator of the Month: Cheryl Maeder

I am a video installation artist and photographer.  I have made great connections with art consultants, public art agents and designers through CODAworx. In fact, I placed one of my video installations in the permanent collection of a healthcare facility through a new connection. I want the people who have seen my video installation work to see my large scale limited edition photographs. These are in permanent museum, corporate & private collections in US & Europe.  When CODA.market launched, I jumped at the opportunity to have my photographs available to be viewed and purchased by design professionals.

Tell a story about one or more particularly memorable commissions that you completed.

I have several of my fine art photographs installed, together with my husband’s multi-media paintings, in the lobby of the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Florida.  Our work is the first vision that people see when walking into the lobby. Tara McCoy, the former CEO of the Good Samaritan Medical Center wanted a more modern, contemporary vision for the medical center.  She stated that studies have proven that art reduces stress & anxiety, reduces the need for pain medication, and increases patient trust and confidence.

Another exciting and adventurous commission was when I was selected by a Venezuelan collector to create three large scale photographs in my style of the Palm Beach coastline from a yacht that was hired specifically for this commission.

What inspires the work you do?

Being in Nature inspires my work. The sacredness of Nature. All of my work springs from this connection. Living in South Florida has very much influenced my art. The relaxed, tropical environment, the horizontal open spaces and the sensual experience of the tropics have expanded my world.  

I feel very connected with Nature living here.  The core of my work is about “connection”; the connection to the self, each other, and to the environment. 

It is my philosophy, that we humans are not only of this world, we are also connected to the broader universe.  It is this concept that permeates throughout my photographs and video installations. As in Nature, my work is constantly evolving; breaking through stereotypes in myself and through my work.
