A back-lit macro print of a core sample of ice from the Amery Ice Shelf. The ice is some 400,000 years old and taken from approximately 4km below the surface. I began studying these ice samples on a residency in Colarado in 2019 and continued research at the UTAS facility in Hobart. We developed a technique using cross-polarizing filters to produce the colours seen representing the ice crystal facets.
