In the series Free Verse: Poetry to Painting, I am creating works of visual art whose models are words, the words of poets. While a desire to internalize the meaning and beauty of poems prompts some to commit poems to memory, those same qualities prompt me to commit poems to paintings. I am drawn to poems that are metaphorical, certainly, but are expressive through reference to the tangible and visible world. This painting is inspired by a poem by Mark Strand.
