When 911 happened I was in Cape Breton on a coastal cliff watching an eagle fly below and a pod of whales in the St Lawrence Seaway. I like to watch salmon runs and fish jumping. I think this is where this series of abstract steel “whale/canoe” or “fish/canoe” sculptures began to develop. They are present and absent, a steel line drawing. The fragmented form reflects a fragmented world...so the sculpture is an Elegy that connects our bodies to Nature. It is the 4th of the series--the other 3 are along Mission Creek Salmon River in Kelowna British Columbia. The work can be mounted on its stands to a base or installed without the stands, on boulders, like the ones in B.C.
